November - December

November:
  • Football
We started the season with a match against CIS, which was hard becasue we tried out different formations and the team was pretty unorganized. We ended up drawing against them, 2:2 but techniqually won on penalties in the end. We played a couple of matches after the initial training setions including another game against CIS, Gateway, Royal Institute and Elizabeth Moir school. We beat royal Institute 4:1, Gateway 3:1, lost 3:2 to Elizabeth Moir and beat CIS on penalities after a 1:1 score during the game.

Here are some pictures from training and a few of the games:

Our hard training on Tuesdays, Wednesdays mornings at 6, Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings has made us into a colaberative team with many strong aspects.  We have worked collaboratively with others, shown perseverance and commitment in their activities and I have develop a new skills as a defender on the team

SAISA this year was a quite successful experience as well. We worked hard as a team to get as far as we could in the group stages. We had to make some shifts in the team because one of the main defenders made some stupid choices and therefore was not able to travel. I then became the central defender and the sweeper, which was a new experience, and made my playing style change quite a bit to adapt.

We did not do so well in the first two games, lossing to LAS 3-0 and Bombay with 3-2. When we then challenged Karachi in the third group stage match, we beat them 3-1 which was a releif because we then moved on to the quarter finals.

We met Chennai in the quarter finals, which also was a success where we won. The only problem was that we were placed against LAS again in the Semi finals, and we knew before we even started that we were not going to make it. LAS had not conseeded one goal in the whole tournament and we didnt stand a chance in the second half. We were clearly the best team against them though, allowing only 2 goals in the Semi finals, which was 1 less goal then any of the other teams, proving that we were their toughest rivals.

After loosing to LAS 2-0 we moved on to play for the 3rd or the 4th position. At this point, our team had so many injuries and we were all so tired that we eventually went into penalties when the score was 3-3, and then lost on penalties. :(

But we did work hard throughout the tournament and it was all worth it in the end, to manage so far with the team that we had. Well done boys!!! Here are some pictures from SAISA:

Creativity:

For creativity this term I have learnt a new skill. When we were doing the Battle of the Bands for our community and service concert, I chose to be the person responisble for the lights. This seemed interesting to me and I wanted to do the best job that I could do to make the performances the best that they could be.

To make sure I knew what I was doing, I collaberated with Constance to practice the different lighting effects beforehand and memorized the different buttons for master turnoff and strobelight effects. These were all needed as some of the bands in the performances wanted the lights to flash as they were playing, or that their act started with the whole stage being dark.

I thought I did a very good job when we actually did the whole Battle of the Bands concert, and the others must have thought so too, because they asked me to do the OSC's got Talent show two weeks after as well. This made me feel proud of my accomplishments ;) Here are some pictures from the talent show:

Community and Service:

Our main project for this term was the Battle of the Bands concert. We started many months ago to try and spread as much awareness about Cleft lip and palete to the public and to raise money for these children.

On the 26th of November we finally got all the people that enjoy rock and roll together in Colombo. We had the Battle of the Bands concert at the OSC auditorium, with special equipment to assist the bands with quality and invited two local profesional bands to play after the competition between the other bands was completed. This even was a huge success, bring in about 300 people from all over Colombo and raise a staggering 314 thousand rupees for the Kids with Cleft Lip and Palete disease.

September - October

Creativity:
  • This semester I have been asked to join a Drama production that is being made by Skylord. This will take over most of the aspects of creativity as I have to help design my constume, train in my lines at home and with other people in the play. This will help to develop Increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth, undertaken new challenges, work collaboratively with others and develop new skills.
Action:
  • This terms I took part in the SAISA swimming activity. We started in late August with our training and trained hard and long during the weeks before SAISA. Three weeks before the tornament, we were supposed vote for a team captain, and with an unanimous votes, I was voted Team Captain this year as well. SAISA swimming develops me as a person, which links me to the CAS criteria:
    • Increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth, worked collaboratively with others, shown perseverance and commitment in their activities and develop new skills.
While at the competition, the people that travelled with us took some pictures:

While at SAISA i set 3 SAISA records, got 8 medals and contributed in a mayor way to the relay team. The pictures above show me getting a few of my medals as well as cheering on the other people in the pool.

Community and Service:

These two months we have been working hard to plan the Battle of the Bands concert. We made two different types of advertisments to get people to come to the event. Karl made the samples below to get people to come to support the kids with cleft lip and palete. Bharat was able to find the picture used in this on Google, while Karl made the changes to make it origninal.

This is a sample of the poster:

This is a sample of the raffle ticket (probably not the final one)

We also went to visit the hospital with the kids. We saw all the children that are being operated for the cleft lip and palete disease, where they are recovering after surgery or being prepared for the surgery. We were unable to communicate them because we were only allowed for a small time as some of the kids were just about to go in for their surgery. Some of the surgeries that were happening at this time were the ones that we had paid for, which made the hard work that we do really rewarding.

      CAS Goals 2011-2012

Cleft Pallete: One of our main goals this year is to raise a sufficient amount of funds so that a few children can get the surgeries that they cant afford. This year we are planning to have a concert in the auditorium to raise these funds. The planning is still in the initial stages and therefore there is not much to write about now. But in coming weeks, as it starts coming together. We also plan to create a blog specifically for the Cleft Palate organization which will have weekly updates about our meetings, discussions and plans. This activity will include all 8 of the CAS criteria and develop me in all of the different areas.

Swimming: To ensure that I am dedicated, challenged and developing my own skills, I will train very hard this year. While being able to perform, I have also been awarded the Team Captain Title and will have to prove myself as a competent leader and role model.

My plan for this years SAISA is at least 4 gold and maybe a couple of other medals as training has been at the maximum since the season started.

Football: To develop my skills from last year, I will challenge and dedicate myself to football aswell today. I will work hard with the rest of my team to finish in the top 3 this year for SAISA. I will be dedicated, challenged and developing my own skills as well as working alongside my teammates to succeed.

      Grade 12 CAS Goals

To get a really firm grasp on our CAS project this year, Bharat and myself, the CAS leaders for Cleft lip and palette will work hard to:
      • Raise money by creating fun and working activities that include the children and our group of hard working CAS students
      • Our main goals are to organize and facilitate a Concert where many bands will be performing, while selling t-shirts and small items that will help raise money
        • T-shirts will have a print on them, with the name of the event and the CAS group to show what they have bought the shirt for.
        • Arm-bands, as an addiction to the ticket in to the concert, for a slight extra cost, to raise additional funds to help the children in the hospital
      • The second goal is to organize a dinner for Diplomats and Expats which would help to organize a group activity that will raise significant funds, from the dinner as well as selling small items that the children have made (paintings, jewellery etc.)
      • We will also make sure that our whole group of students will be visiting the hospital to play/communicate with the kids at least once a month
      • We will also bring some paper and maybe some coloring pencils so that the children can make their own drawings to sell at the dinner
We will concentrate on reaching all 8 Goals of the Learners Outcomes:

    • Increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth: They are able to see themselves as individuals with various skills and abilities, some more developed than others, and understand they can make choices about how they wish to move forward.

    • Undertaken new challenges: A new challenge may be an unfamiliar activity, or an extension to an existing one.

    • Planned and initiated activities: Planning and initiation will often be in collaboration with others. It can be shown in activities that are part of larger projects, for example, ongoing school activities in the local community, as well as in small student-led activities.

    • Worked collaboratively with others: Collaboration can be shown in many different activities, such as team sports, playing music in a band, or helping in a kindergarten. At least one project involving collaboration and the integration of at least two of creativity, action and service, is required.

    • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities: At a minimum, this implies attending regularly and accepting a share of the responsibility for dealing with problems that arise in the course of activities.

    • Engaged with issues of global importance: Students may be involved in international projects but there are many global issues that can be acted upon locally or nationally (for example, environmental concerns, caring for the elderly).

    • Considered the ethical implications of their actions: Ethical decisions arise in almost any CAS activity (for example, on the sports field, in musical composition, in relationships with others involved in service activities). Evidence of thinking about ethical issues can be shown in various ways, including journal entries and conversations with CAS advisers.

    • Develop new skills: As with new challenges, new skills may be shown in activities that the student has not previously undertaken, or in increased expertise in an established area.

There has been some problems with my old email. Someone though it would be fun to hack it and use my email for prank emails, so this is the new CAS blog. The link to the old one is

If anyone needs to look at the older one, just check that blog.
